Being More! Member Development Program: What You Need to Know

Delta Zeta Sorority is excited to launch the Being More! Member Development Program for all collegiate chapters. For those of our members who were unable to attend National Convention and learn more about the program, we wanted to share with you the important details of what you need to know.

Who: All collegiate members

What: Being More! is a four-year peer-led personal leadership development experience which is based upon a competency model. Throughout their years in college, our members will participate in programs that will assist in their growth across six competencies: Communicates Effectively, Personal Life Balances, Values & Maintains Relationships, Confidence, Critical Thinking and Resolves Conflict. Each academic class with participate in a curriculum designed for them.

Programs range from 60 to 90 minutes and are comprised of a variety of activities including group discussions, reflection, quizzes, interviews, games, etc. Each participant will receive a Participant Guide and each peer facilitator will receive a Facilitator Guide to lead them through the process of presenting the program.

When: During the 2013-2014 academic year, Delta Zeta piloted the Being More! Program with 17 college chapters. Chapter visits, a pre- and post-test assessment and feedback from the peer facilitators all contributed to curriculum edits following the pilot. Delta Zeta is offering a Pilot Phase 2 during the fall of 2014 for chapters who wish to opt in. Chapters choosing not to participate will begin the program in January 2015 with the full launch.

Where: Each chapter should secure space on campus or utilize available space within the chapter house or suite for these programs. We recommend a space that is comfortable and allows for the participants to move around the room. You may also consider looking at a space that would allow you to have A/V. Remember that each program is peer led, so if all four academic classes are meeting at the same time, you will need four spaces.

Why:  Delta Zeta believes in the potential of each member and wants to equip them with the tools they need to accomplish their dreams. The Being More! Program seeks to prepare members for the challenges they will face throughout their time in college, as leaders of student organizations, and as they transition out of college and into their career. The program also assists in preparing our members to best take advantage of opportunities with skills such as networking, interviewing and resolving conflict in the workplace.

How:  Chapter Presidents, Vice Presidents of Membership and College Chapter Directors will receive an email with program details and information on how to opt in to Pilot Phase 2. Webinars and other training opportunities will be offered.
